Montana Fly Fishing Report
Spring is really trying to kick in here in the Rockies. Our rivers are starting to clear up, and although flows can fluctuate daily, the trout typically are looking for their next meal - as opposed to hiding waiting for the water to warm up. The Big Hole will have (in fact it already does) Skwala Stone action for the next couple weeks, and the Jefferson will fish just about any day the wind doesn't blow.
The Beaverhead and Ruby fish well this time of year - although the water will be low, and you might have to treat the fish a bit more like spring creek fish to get them to eat - they will. I heard from a friend that knows a guy that the Madison is fishing well on the non-blustery days, and a fellow was just in the shop telling me that he hooked the largest trout of his life up on Clark Canyon.
So, how many more opportunities do you need to get out there?
Our season kicks off next week, so the reports will become more frequent as they boys get out on a more regular basis.
The shop is stocked up and ready. Feel free to call for up to date intel, or just to talk fishing.

Due to high demand, we are expanding our hosted trips this coming season to include 2 weeks in Mexico and a new trip to New Orleans, along with a new destination to be announced. For more information, please inquire at the shop, or visit with us about your next flyfishing vacation while you are in Montana!
PLAYA BLANCA MEXICO, 2014--- Early Feb, DATES TO BE ANNOUNCED.
In November of 2013 we will also be hosting a trip to good old New Orleans chasing Redfish with our friends Nick Sassic and Scott McMilla... standby for dates and details! We scouted it out this past October, and it's one heck of a trip!
Why a hosted trip? It's simple - we have been there, and know what to expect. We know the lodge, the guides, the food and the fishery. We will bring enough tackle, flies, know how and fun to make your vacation the best it can be. Trust your guide on that one. After all, these are the places and people we spend our money on as well!

OUR MONTANA FLY FISHING SEASONSWhen should I come? Have a look at our season recap and it may help you decide. A brief synopsis of our seasons and hatches compiled by Rooster and his staff of Montana Fly Fishing Guides..... |
Emily and Tyler Cote sent us this thank you....
"We just want to say thanks for the incredible week we spent with you guys in Twin. Everything about the experience exceeded our expectations. Your guides, staff, food, accommodations, location and of course the fishing were all just incredible. Like I told Emily that day we were out on the spring creek, you guys gave us the chance to catch (and blow!) more big trout in one day than I have in all of my combined experiences as an angler. We were little nervous when we flew into Bozeman and saw high water everywhere, but you guys consistently put us on to fish and had a plan to work around what mother nature was dealing out after weeks of epic rain. As this was our first real destination fishing trip, we don't have a lot of experience to measure against - but I've got to say the bar has been set pretty high.
We already miss Montana and the crew at the Stonefly Inn and can't wait to get back. Next time we will try to recruit some friends to go along and we will absolutely spread the good word on our end. I learned a lot of really cool stuff and I count the whole thing as being right up there with one of the best experiences of my life. Thanks Rooster! " --Emily and Tyler Cote, Monmouth, Maine.
