THE FINEST FLYFISHING VACATIONS IN MONTANA

Welcome to the Stonefly Inn & Outfitters, Montana's "Last Best Fly Fishing Lodge", located in the heart of Montana's Blue Ribbon Trout Country.

Based in Twin Bridges, we are licensed outfitters on the Big Hole, The Beaverhead, The Madison, The Jefferson, the Missouri and the Ruby Rivers. That's right - there is over three hundred miles of world class Montana fly fishing water within an hour’s drive of your cabin door.

BIG HOLE, BEAVERHEAD, MADISON, JEFFERSON, RUBY

FIVE Blue Ribbon Rivers. Six guest cabins, great steaks and the best guides in the zip code. Join us here at The Stonefly Inn and let us show you our definition of "Montana's best fly fishing". Because when it’s over, the fishing was just one part of your Montana fly fishing vacation.

2014 Season Forecast - Crystal Ball.

As many of you experienced last season, the "Draught" caught up with us again, hitting us right below the belt. We got creative and fished through some tough conditions, and had some great fishing. Lets face it - here in the Rocky Mountains, we have forest fires, we have floods, we have draughts - and the fish all live thorugh it. So so we. We proved it once again with a banner season and expect the same in 2014 - conditions be damned.

That said - it looks like the snow is piling up nicely in the High Country. Forecasting water flows this early in the game is a death sentence - kind of like counting your chickens before they are hatched. I will bet we see better water in 2014, just based on the early snow we have. Like Forest Gump said - "Thats all I have to say about that"......

Bookings are looking great for 2014, with July almost at capacity already. If you have a smaller group, odds are we can squeeze you in somewhere in July - but dont wait too much longer. Larger groups will be tough to accomodate, but its worth a shot - especially with the addition of our new rental houses. June has some great opeings as well as hopper time in August!

Even if we cannot accomodate you, we would be happy to reccomend some alternative locations and outfitters that we work with on a regular basis.

Give us a call or send us an email for more information - we look forward to helping you!

04.10.2014 - Spring in the Rockies

Montana Fly Fishing Report

It seems as though winter has loosened its grip on the high plains of the Rocky Mountains. At least as of today. The weather is great outside and actually makes a guy want to go fishing, which is a nice change from the constant rains of Washington's Olympic Peninsula. As of today it appears that the best bet around is the upper Madison, as the Big Hole, Beaverhead and Jefferson have bumped in flows and picked up a little more than "some color". This time of year that is completely normal, and can change overnight with a cold front.

If you have a trip scheduled with us in the near future, chances are you will be in for some great fishing - regardless of the weather. Some of the better days I remember are when it seemed like it was a bit colder than I really wanted it to be.

As for yorus truly, I am off to Alaska to guide for steelhead for the next couple months - so call the shop and talk with Holly for up to date river conditions!

OUR MONTANA FLY FISHING SEASONS

When should I come? Have a look at our season recap and it may help you decide. A brief synopsis of our seasons and hatches compiled by Rooster and his staff of Montana Fly Fishing Guides.....

Emily and Tyler Cote sent us this thank you....

"We just want to say thanks for the incredible week we spent with you guys in Twin. Everything about the experience exceeded our expectations. Your guides, staff, food, accommodations, location and of course the fishing were all just incredible. Like I told Emily that day we were out on the spring creek, you guys gave us the chance to catch (and blow!) more big trout in one day than I have in all of my combined experiences as an angler. We were little nervous when we flew into Bozeman and saw high water everywhere, but you guys consistently put us on to fish and had a plan to work around what mother nature was dealing out after weeks of epic rain. As this was our first real destination fishing trip, we don't have a lot of experience to measure against - but I've got to say the bar has been set pretty high.

We already miss Montana and the crew at the Stonefly Inn and can't wait to get back. Next time we will try to recruit some friends to go along and we will absolutely spread the good word on our end. I learned a lot of really cool stuff and I count the whole thing as being right up there with one of the best experiences of my life. Thanks Rooster! " --Emily and Tyler Cote, Monmouth, Maine.
