SPRINGTIME IN ALASKA

Greetings from Wrangell, AK - where spring has sprung. Warmer than normal temperatures and light snow in the surrounding hills made for some exceptionally challenging fishing this week, as water flows were low and clear. The steelhead run seems to be strong, following suit with the runs of fish on the Washington coast this winter. We sight fished to fair numbers of fish on all of the rivers this week, but our hookup ratio seemed to be lighter than normal. Rather than inhaling the first presentation, which we have come to expect, the fish would require super stealthy approaches, and naturally would spook and offer no chance if anything was less than perfect. Frustrating and challenging at the same time!

All in all, another great week aboard the Adventurous, with daily catches of dungeness crab, spot prawns, halibut, and king salmon to feast on nightly. Its not hard to relax up here, that is for sure.

When I return to Montana, I will sort through the hundreds of photos and document our trip a bit better.

Signing off from Wrangell harbor - thanks for reading!
